Future Horizon Children's Home

A Real Home Built on Love, Safety and Structure

At Future Horizon Residential Children’s Home, we provide a safe, loving and therapeutic home for children who need stability, care and support.

We believe children need more than a placement. They need trusted adults, positive relationships, clear boundaries and a place where they feel valued and understood.

Future Horizon will care for up to four children, boys and girls aged 8 to 17, from diverse backgrounds. Each child will receive personalised care based on their needs, strengths and aspirations.

Our home is built on love, safety and structure. Through everyday moments such as shared meals, routines, encouragement and calm conversations, we create a genuine sense of home.

We work in line with the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards, keeping each child’s safety, wellbeing, education, health and future at the heart of our care.

  • Social and emotional difficulties

Our Therapeutic Approach

Future Horizon is a therapeutic children’s home. We look beyond behaviour to understand each child’s experiences, emotions, needs and story.

Many children in residential care may have experienced trauma, loss, instability or disrupted relationships. Our approach is trauma-informed, child-centred and relationship-based, helping children feel safe, supported and able to heal.

We draw on approaches such as PACE, CBT, DDP and Person-Centred Therapy principles to support emotional regulation, confidence, resilience and healthier relationships. Where specialist therapeutic work is needed, this is provided by qualified mental health professionals.

Personalised Care and Support

Every child has an individual care plan based on their needs, risks, strengths, wishes and long-term goals. We work closely with placing authorities, families where appropriate, education, health and other professionals to provide joined-up care.

Our support is holistic, covering emotional wellbeing, education, health, relationships, culture, identity, independence skills and future aspirations. Care plans are reviewed regularly to ensure support remains safe, relevant and responsive.

Education, Growth and Achievement

We encourage every child to learn, achieve and recognise their potential. This includes education, training, hobbies, interests and activities that build confidence and self-worth.

We celebrate all forms of progress, including emotional growth, improved relationships, independence, creativity, resilience and positive choices.

Emotional Wellbeing and Positive Relationships

Positive relationships are central to our home. We help children build trust, communicate safely, understand their emotions and develop healthier relationships with adults, peers, family and the wider community.

Our staff provide consistent emotional support, helping children manage difficult feelings, resolve conflict and make sense of their experiences.

Mentorship and Youth Development

Alongside care and therapeutic support, we offer mentorship and youth development opportunities to help children build confidence, identity and purpose.

Through creative activities such as writing, drama, spoken word, music and group discussions, children are encouraged to express themselves, process emotions and discover new strengths.

Our mentorship sessions help young people to:

    • Build confidence and self-worth
    • Develop emotional awareness
    • Think critically about choices and consequences
    • Challenge limiting beliefs
    • Learn positive life lessons
    • Explore hopes, goals and future aspirations

These sessions are designed to inspire children and young people, helping them see beyond their current circumstances and believe in what is possible.

A therapeutic children’s home provides care that considers a child’s emotional, psychological, social and developmental needs. It aims to understand behaviour, support healing and help children build trust, safety and resilience.

Future Horizon supports children and young people aged 8 to 18 years old, subject to referral, assessment and suitability.

Our home is designed to care for up to four children, creating a small, nurturing and stable environment where each child can receive personalised care and attention.

We support children who may have experienced trauma, loss, attachment difficulties, adverse childhood experiences, social and emotional difficulties, ADHD, mild to moderate learning difficulties, challenging behaviour, homelessness, family breakdown or previous placement disruption.

Each referral is assessed carefully to ensure the placement is safe, suitable and in the best interests of the child.

Our approach draws on PACE, CBT, DDP and Person-Centred Therapy principles. These help children with emotional regulation, confidence, coping skills, relationships and self-understanding.

Where direct therapeutic input is required, this is provided by qualified mental health professionals, including psychotherapists, counsellors and psychologists.

Emergency placements may be considered where it is safe and appropriate to do so, and where the child’s needs can be properly assessed and met within the home.

We offer short, medium and long-term placements, including placements from six months plus, depending on the child’s needs, referral information and care planning arrangements.
