Supported Accommodation

At Future Horizon Supported Accommodation, we provide safe, structured and supportive accommodation for young people aged 16+ as they prepare for adulthood and independent living.

We understand that this stage of life can feel exciting, challenging and uncertain. Our role is to support each young person to build the practical skills, emotional resilience and confidence they need to manage daily life, make positive choices and move towards a stable future.

Our approach is person-centred, trauma-informed and therapeutic. We recognise that every young person’s journey is different, so we work with each individual to understand their needs, strengths, risks, goals and aspirations.

What Is Supported Accommodation?

Supported accommodation gives young people the opportunity to live in a safe and stable environment while receiving the guidance they need to develop independence.

It is designed for young people who may not yet be ready to live fully independently but are ready to start learning the responsibilities of adult life. This may include managing money, cooking, maintaining their living space, attending education or employment, building healthy relationships, looking after their wellbeing and making safe decisions.

Personalised Support

Every young person has an individual support plan based on their needs, circumstances and goals. We work with the young person, placing authorities and relevant professionals to identify the right areas of support.

This may include help with budgeting, cooking, cleaning, appointments, education, training, employment, emotional wellbeing, relationships, health, routines and preparation for move-on accommodation.

Support plans are reviewed regularly so that progress is recognised and any changing needs are responded to appropriately.

Independent Living Skills

A key part of our service is helping young people develop the practical skills needed for adult life. We support young people with cooking, cleaning, personal organisation, managing money, attending appointments, understanding responsibilities, maintaining routines and making positive choices.

We encourage young people to gradually take ownership of their daily lives while knowing that support is available when they need it.

Emotional Wellbeing and Therapeutic Support

Many young people entering supported accommodation may have experienced trauma, instability, loss, family breakdown or emotional distress. Because of this, emotional wellbeing is central to the way we work.

Future Horizon uses a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach, drawing on models such as DBT, CBT, PACE and Person-Centred Therapy principles. These approaches help young people develop emotional regulation, healthier coping strategies, self-awareness, confidence and trust in safe relationships.

Where direct therapeutic support is required, this is provided by appropriately qualified mental health professionals, including psychotherapists, counsellors and psychologists.

Mentorship and Youth Development

We believe young people need more than accommodation and practical support. They also need positive role models, encouragement, creativity and opportunities to discover their strengths.

Our mentorship and youth development programmes use creative outlets such as writing, acting, drama, spoken word, music and group discussion to help young people express themselves, process emotions and develop confidence.

Our workshops are led by mentors who understand the challenges young people may face, including individuals with professional experience and, where appropriate, lived experience. In relaxed and supportive group settings, mentors help young people to:

  • Build confidence and self-worth
  • Develop critical thinking
  • Explore emotions in healthy ways
  • Challenge limiting beliefs
  • Learn from positive life lessons
  • Think differently about their choices and future

These sessions are designed to inspire young people, encourage open dialogue and provide practical tools for personal growth and positive life outcomes.
